Pediatrics to Go provides 24/7 home visits for children in Manhattan and the Hamptons. The service is available in select areas of Manhattan ten months of the year and in the Hamptons during summer weekends and full time in July and August.
Pediatrics to Go was started after Doctor Gordon became aware of a need amongst his general pediatric patients in Manhattan. When the office was closed at night and on the weekends, the phones continued to ring. After a while, he wanted to be able to do more than simply offer phone advice or send patients to the emergency room. So Doctor Gordon started meeting patients in the office after hours. As demand for after-hours care grew rapidly, Doctor Gordon began coming to patients' homes. Soon it was clear that patients preferred the personalized care that came with home visits.
There are many added benefits to home care. Although Doctor Gordon maintains privileges at Cornell, Lenox Hill, Mount Sinai and NYU Hospitals, he rarely needs to send children to the emergency room any more. In fact after he evaluates a child, if needed, he can admit the child directly to the hospital and bypass the emergency room. Patients no longer have to suffer through the night or the weekend with untreated illnesses. Parents no longer have to deal with the long early morning lines at the pediatrician's office to determine whether their child is contagious and can go to school. Finally, at night or early in the morning, both parents are often present for visits.
Coming to the home takes away the fear factor that many children experience at the pediatrician's office. Both patients and parents are more relaxed in the comfort of their own homes. The visits last as long as needed and there is no rush to see the next patient in the waiting room. There are no long waits, no fears of getting sick in the waiting room, and no one asking when he or she can go home.
Pediatrics to Go limits its membership to two hundred families a year. This ensures a close doctor/patient relationship. Some members have primary pediatricians and use the service as an emergency backup. For other families, Doctor Gordon serves as the primary pediatrician, providing check-ups and vaccinations in the home. Guaranteed services and access to email are limited to families who sign up in advance. For all others, services are provided depending on availability.
